Summer is Gone
The hot and muggy days of summer have come and gone in Nauvoo. The wind and the cold are replacing the heat. The flora and fauna along the Mississippi are following time and tradition as the birds migrate and the trees become bare and silent. Our mission in Nauvoo is quickly coming to an end, it has been fulfilling, and a year that will fill more than its allotted space in my memory. People, places and feelings that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
But, just as we planned and prepared to be here, we have planned and prepared for what is next. We are excited for the ‘life’ that awaits us in the coming year, and the challenges, projects, and family that will be part of that unfolding.
Thanksgiving day opens the holiday season for most of us. A season that has become the final push for corporate earnings and the bellwether of annual retail sales. I think that it is fitting that we express our gratitude for all we have just prior to celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the greatest blessing to all mankind. Enjoy the coming month, let the calm and quiet times outweigh the ‘bustle’.
Summer’s Gone
The seasons march in faithful turn
Eager to greet the coming dawn
They guard their time sober and stern
But signs reveal that summer’s gone
Do we sorrow with great regret
Things on our list that aren’t yet done
Should we bemoan our goals not met
Accepting fate that summer’s gone
No
We should address the list anew
And note the things we’ve left undone
We’ll concentrate on one or two
And fuel our days though summer’s gone
And if our chores extend through fall
We’ll face the wind and push along
To conquer the list once and for all
Fully engaged though summer’s gone
